Thing #6- Cyber Safety Part 1

Before I begin I must say: Happy Earth Day! Time to make the world a better place both outside and on the Internet!

Q1- Bill of Rights

Here is a basic Bill of Rights for the Internet that states 9 parts of being a Digital Citizen:

1. Digital Access: full electronic participation in society.
2. Digital Commerce: electronic buying and selling of goods3. Digital Communication: electronic exchange of information.4. Digital Literacy: process of teaching and learning about
    technology
and the use of technology.
5. Digital Etiquette: electronic standards of conduct or procedure6. Digital Law: electronic responsibility for actions and deeds 7. Digital Rights & Responsibilities: those freedoms extended to     everyone in a digital world8. Digital Health & Wellness: physical & psychological well-being in a digital technology world9. Digital Security (self-protection): electronic precautions to    guarantee safety.

Here are are some rules for Internet Etiquette (Netiquette)

In other words remember that there are REAL LIVE people you are talking to and they have feeling too. So remember the golden rule.
Plain and Simple. Don't do or say anything you wouldn't do in real life.
Don't go exploring the Dark Web.
Don't be mad at other people if they have to quit playing a game. Real life activities are way more important than your game quests.
Don't say or do things that would suggest you as being a predator.
Rule 6: Share expert knowledge
The more people know how to use the internet correctly and use some tricks the more fun it is!
Rule 7: Help keep flame wars under control
The less you flame and tell people that flaming isn't cool and it just destroys friendships the less flames that end in a burned down bridge.
Rule 8: Respect other people's privacy
One of my favorites. Do go asking for people's gender, age, name, location, etc. This makes people feel uncomfortable and again can make you look like a predator.
Rule 9: Don't abuse your power
Don't go 'evil dictator' on the internet.
Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people's mistakes
Remember that all people are human and humans make mistakes. Again, think of the golden rule here.

Here are some more basic guide lines for Internet Usage from the 21Things4Students website:

1.  People can save what is said online

2.  Only say what you’d be willing to say in person

3.  Don’t be stalk worthy

4.  Kids should tell an adult if they are in an uncomfortable situation

5.  Know where your kids are going (URL)

6.  Don’t open things from people you do not know

7.  Don’t show obvious signs of where you live, etc.

8.  MySpace, and Facebook are NOT secure, even when private

9.  Keep the computer in a open area of the house

10.  Use common sense!

Here is a Bill of Rights that I can created after evaluating these wonderful lists of rules of being on the internet:

1. Use the Golden Rule
2. Once it's on the Internet it stays there, so don't do anything stupid
3. Flaming is mean and destroys bridges
4. Spamming is a waste of Internet space and doesn't earn you any friends
5. Making friends is awesome just be careful who they are...
6. Don't give out any personal information! (I can't stress this enough!)
7. Stay accountable, use your computer in an open room for all to see
8. Be careful what you buy on the internet and who are buying it from
9. Do share tips and tricks of Internet usage!
10. Don't click on anything you don't know of for sure what in it (it could be a virus!)

Q2- Danger!

Remember to think before you click!
